I noticed something, and I was wondering: does a ring on a woman's ring finger (the fourth finger, right hand) necessariy means that she's married?

Or do women put rings on that finger (and on no other finger) even if they're single? Just curious.

I realize the answer seems obvious, but I've heard that the ring on that finger might not always indicate marriage.

Married ring is on left hand, 3rd finger.

It means one of three things:

1. She's married

2. She's widowed and not interested in to dating anyone.

3. She's single and not interested in dating anyone.

Isn't a pinky ring a mafia thing?

Can it simply be just a simple preference for that particular finger, for no particular reason?

Wedding ring or just a ring?
I wear rings on both of my 3rd fingers, and I am not married.
Also depends on cultures - some people wear wedding ring on their left hand, some on right. I was wearing mine on right hand.
And there are married people who don't wear (wedding) rings at all...

So you wear rings on the other fingers as well? Or just on the 3rd fingers alone?

On the 3rd fingers alone. (more rings would look tacky IMO).

If you're a traditionalist, which I am:
Once you're married, tradition dictates that your engagement band be moved back to the third finger on your left hand. When you do so, your wedding ring should remain closest to your heart (where your spouse placed it on your wedding day) and your engagement ring is placed next to the wedding ring.

Other faiths, traditions, may vary:
Some women choose to ignore ring etiquette, and instead infuse their own style on the custom. Some variations on the traditional ring placement include:
Continue to wear the engagement band on the right hand
Forego wearing the engagement band
Weld the rings together
Wear a wedding band on your left and right hands
Wear your engagement ring then wedding band
