Hmmm.... favorite states in order..... Oregon, Arizona, Montana, Washington. But a favorite to visit is different than living there.
Picking the best place I have ever visited is like comparing apples and oranges. Sometimes one seems better than the other, but the next day one craves a kiwi.
How many states have you visited? Roughly 40, including bus transit on my teen tour.
The only states I have not been in are Arkansas, Alabama, South Carolina, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii, so that makes 39 I've been to, counting DC. I've been to Canadian provinces Quebec, Ontario and Alberta.

That visit was a surprise. We were planning on spending a lot of time in Toronto but the heat made us shift the trip north. Algonquin is heaven.

I went to law school there. I started out loving it, but it wore thin rather quickly.

How many states have you visited? Over 13 as I had the magnets from them all. Now giving them away as I find residents of my community who come from a state I have a magnet for. Continual downsizing, ya know.

What's the best place you've ever lived? We rented a house on a farm between the ages of 13-18. 110 year old house with 14 rooms, two staircases, a scary dirt floor basement and a huge attic. The people that owned it breed race horses. It was a marvelous place to live.
What's the best place you've ever visited? Every where I have been has been educational. No "best" places.

Riding a camel around the Great Pyramids at sunset. Surreal...
Like children, I can't pick a favorite. This is such a big, beautiful country and our states have vastly different topography, industry, history, people, customs, festivals, food. We embark on a cross-country road trip every 2 years, choosing a different area of focus. Feet on the ground is the only way to really appreciate our great nation. Different states appeal to me on different levels.
