Newsflash! Swine Flu is about to reach Pandemic proportions. What should we do, what should we do?

Here are some examples from around the world:

Egypt is killing all the pigs. From a civilization that created the Great Pyramid to one that kills pigs out of ignorance. Perhaps they're talking about ugly people and I misunderstood.

Fact: This version of "Swine Flu" has not been found in pigs, except perhaps for those same ugly people mentioned earlier. There is no evidence that eating pork will give you the flu. It might give you something else if you are too stupid to cook it correctly.

They are using thermal cameras at airports in an attempt to determine if passengers have the disease. This is because one of the symptoms is a high fever.

Fact: By the time you have the fever it's too late. You have already spread the disease because it incubates and spreads before you have any symptoms. This is the normal path the for flu, although experts don't know enough yet to be sure of the incubation period for this strain, which normally runs from 24 hours to 4 days with flu.

Lebanon is discouraging the traditional peck-on-the-cheek greeting. What they should be banning are large public gatherings and promoting cleanliness.

Fact: The virus spreads by particulates floating in the air, usually from sneezing. So if someone in the incubation period sneezes in a room and you enter the room five minutes later, you may have a problem and not know where or how you came down with the flu. Sneaky little critters.

Hong Kong is scrubbing down toilet facilities pretty much constantly. Nice gesture.

Fact: While we all appreciate a clean place to pee, what, exactly is this doing to defeat those little beasties the guy you passed on the way in left behind when he sneezed? They are floating around in the air, not landing on the toilet seat. The poor suckers forced to stay in there and clean all day are perfect targets.

Countries are banning travel to other countries that have cases reported.

Fact: By the time we know about it it's too late. Remember the incubation period? Those sick people have been traveling for that same 24 hours to 4 days and we are already breathing in those little infecters. Will it help? Maybe. If you're stuck in Mexico will you be happy? Probably not.

Face masks are selling at a high rate. They work, but. There's always a but. If you don't follow a habit of cleanliness in other areas then it's a waste of time. Granted, the worst of it is airborne, but if Jimbo (infected) hacks into his hand, comes into the room you're in, shakes your hand, and you reach under that all-protective mask to scratch that itch, well you just spent $3.95 for nothing. Purell (I checked - two ells) and it's ilk are a great product and they work, if you use them correctly. Read and follow the directions. Learn the proper method for washing your hands. And wash while singing Happy Birthday - no, not out loud! - and you will have washed for the right length of time. Hot water! Cold is not as effective.

Your best bet? Have an already full pantry and just stay home. If that sounds drastic, well it probably is, but I remember the outbreak of "Swine Flu" years ago and it was ugly. I will do what I can to avoid this one.

And all you people who go to work sick. Don't. What the Hell is wrong with you? A place I worked on contract had what was considered a "Family Friendly" workplace. Friendly to the point that mothers were allowed to bring their children to work when they were sick enough that day care would not allow them. The result? Rampant colds, flu, Pinkeye, etc.

There idiots everywhere. Make an effort to keep away from the for the next month or so.

May this pandemic go the same route as the once expected Bird Flu pandemic.
