Sears Tower unveils 103rd floor glass balconies

CHICAGO – Visitors to the Sears Tower's new glass balconies all seem to agree: The first step is the hardest.

The balconies are suspended 1,353 feet in the air and jut out four feet from the building's 103rd floor Skydeck. Their transparent walls, floor and ceiling leave visitors with the impression they're floating over the city.

That would be brilliant! I would love to go onto that balcony. I'm sure it would be built to be completely safe and the view would be amazing. I am fine with heights if I feel secure, I could never stand on the edge of a cliff, but I could quite happily step onto that glass.

Nope..... me and heights don't agree with one another!
I'll go miles out of my way if it is all possible to avoid anything with heights! I get dizzy and sick on a three step ladder!!

I think it would be awesome. Now if only I could find an airplane with a transparent floor.

I so agree with Lady Ice.

You are enclosed in that balcony so I would love to see the view even though I don't like getting too close to the edge of cliffs!

Default No way.

I cannot do heights. I've tried.

Me and (future) hubby hiked up to a watefall one time on this trail that was literally a rock wall on one side and straight down on the other.

I was too far up the trail to turn back and he didn't want to turn back.

So, I literally creeped up the trail holding onto the rocks on one side with my right hand, and the back of his shirt with my left hand.

I give him credit, the view at the top was AMAZING and the waterfall was BEEEAUTIFUL.

He kept walking over to the edge and looking over and I kept holding onto his shirt with both hands.

In reality he was about 4 good steps back from the edge but stuff like that terrifies me.

I cannot even look over the balcony at the mall or go near it since it's a glass wall with a rail on top. I will walk on the opposite side of the hallway !

My dad is afraid of heights, too.

That's interesting, I'm not scared of heights, but I don't particularily care for standing over 1300 feet above a street in Chicago. I'd rather be out on the top of a mountain or some other natural wonder.

I wonder if they keep it open on windy days..

Hopefully someone wears their underwear if they go in there wearing a dress or skirt.
