Topo, I'm really disappointed in you for starting a thread like this, you really let us down.
No, seriously...try to pull yourself out of that funk. If you are doing what you can do, and feel in your heart that it's the right way, let it go. You have to believe in yourself first before others will believe in you.
Try this philosophy..."I'm okay, it's the rest of the world that is all screwed up"
Luckily I don't feel that way, but I feel that I have had family that has dissapointed and failed me...and I am sure they aren't thinking twice about it!
Why would you think so of yourself, if you don't mind me asking?
Who cares what other people think!! Are you happy...that's the question. Don't set goals or do things to make other happy, dot hat for yourself!
I have felt like that before, but realized that I was doing things for the wrong reasons. I needed to do things to make me feel good about acheiving something.
In all seriousness, I think we all get to feeling like that once in a while. Its called "The Blues".
Take a "me" day off of work and go do something fun.
Then, ask yourself if it really matters what your brother/uncle/cousin thinks of your job/house/car. If you are happy, and you are not a serial killer/rapist/arsonist, then s.c.r.e.w those who would bring you down. Perhaps they are dumping on you in an effort to feel better about themselves.
Anyone ever feel like they have disappointed, or failed their family, friends, and employers?
Feeling like I have disappointed and failed everyone lately! So, I am wondering if others feel this way
You need to go to someone you trust who is in a position to actually tell you and ask him or her: "Please tell me what I'm doing right and what you see as wrong".
I had a time when I first became a department manager, had 200 reports, and was running around solving problems and putting out fires non-stop. I made some big mistakes and I felt like I was a fraud, that I shouldn't be in the position I was in...no college degree and the other three Dept. Managers all came from flashy corporate backgrounds, etc. I was an internal promotion.
I finally reached the point where I felt like I failed everyone and went to my boss (the coolest lady on the planet) and she said: "What's wrong?" I told her "Maryanne, I've cluster-f*cked everything I've touched and I think I'm over my head" (and believe it or not..I burst into tears! Torrents of tears actually - a human Niagara Falls! - can you imagine that? At work in a very professional and corporate environment?!!!! ).
Anyway, she said wait. Let's go over what you think you cluster-f*cked. So we went through a whole list of assignments, projects, decisions made, etc. On some she'd say..."yeah...that one wasn't so good", or "what! you did a great job on that one!". We evaluated my whole performance and the positives far outweighed the negatives.
I've never forgotten her kindness as a Director in taking the time to help me organize my sense of proportion and evaluate me on the spot. She was simply amazing and I walked out of her office glowing. Most of my failures were overmagnified in my head, but I couldn't see my own view was distorted.
Location: Finally made it to Florida and lovin' every minute!

Hang in there, Topo. You have some good advice from your friends here. We cannot be held responsible for anyone else's happiness and vice versa. As long as you know you're doing the right thing and you are comfortable with yourself is what counts.
