I often listen to Latino radio stations that broadcast only in Spanish. I listen to every word they say. I don't speak Spanish. Oh, I know for example, that "corazon" means heart (it is one of the most common words in any Mexican song, I think) lol.

But I keep listening to the announcers and I think to myself that if I listen long enough, surely I will be able to understand what they are saying.

(I'm pretty good when they announce phone numbers - uno dos tres, quatro, etc.,)

So, am I nuts? no. really.

Seriously, even if you knew Spanish, it's unlikely you'd be able to figure out what they're saying. You'd be lucky to identify a word here and there.

I do the same thing when I'm in Sweden. But then...I really don't have any choice. All their radio stations are Swedish! But after a few days I can pick out words here and there...

Haha - I always wonder about this, too. People always say they learned a language by watching the soaps, or whatever, in the other language. I would think that would be a far too time-consuming and inefficient way to do it. Doesn't mean I don't try it sometimes, though. My dad is Mexican and I took two Spanish courses in high school, but I'll *never* be able to keep up with the radio broadcasts!

Cute post, though. Keep at it, if you enjoy it!

No. Not crazy at all. I watch Spanish language television so I can learn. This is what my husband did when he was in South America. He is fluent in Spanish, but picked up all the different dialects. He can literally tell you which Spanish speaking country someone is from just by their speech. I am getting pretty good at it myself. Before doing this, I couldn't tell the difference between a Puerto Rican and a Cuban. Now I know. I never took Spanish in school - I took German. But I am able to converse in Spanish somewhat just by watching the shows and listening.

Sometimes I listen to Latino music on the radio just to feel like I blend in with all the other people at the intersection.
