Have to be up late for work sometimes, till 4am or later, have a nap during the day but still get damn tired lol think its my old age of 31 catching up with me, didn't have this prob in my 20's.
And yes this is relationships with one's self
Anyone have any tips to stay awake and alert? bare in mind don't drink coffee or do any drugs.

Sounds like you need more sleep. I don't know if you have it in Newzealand, but there is a natural substance, that's also in the human body called Melatonin. It helps you fall asleep faster, and sleep longer. It's not a drug, it's a natural chemical in the human body that helps regulate the body's sleep cycles. It's usually found at healthfood or natural food stores, normally in the vitamin sections.
The last job before retiring was 12 hour shift ( 7pm-7am)
I would " hit the wall" every morning around 3am
It would last for about 20 minutes and nothing really helped. I attributed it to my age (late 50's then) but discovered everyone else ( young and old) had that happen at various times.
Once that 20 minutes passed, it seemed everyone was ok til 7 AM.
I tried energy drinks, coffee, running cold water on my eyelids.
Just something I had to fight thru til it ended after about 20 minutes of pure hell.
I know... on call 24/7 getting old after 20+ years.
