I believe it means you start out life as a peon and then end up being the CEO...
Or the more education/experience you get the more money you'll make.

Or it could mean a 100 other things...

Not for those on Wall Street, AIG, Bank of America etc etc etc….. they all seem to be rotten apples. If you ask me. ~ They’ve been polishing their “gold” while the fruit decays.
