I really appreciate everyone's comments and the great ideas! I have MOVED and am just outside of Ottawa now, living somewhere temporarily until I can find a good place in the city. Huge culture shock, obviously, but I'll get used to it with time. It helps that the weather right now is almost as hot as it was in Texas when I left (but I dread November already...).

I never used to like country music AT ALL (grew up listening to CHUM FM, Q-107 and 102.1 CFNY) but I did grow to appreciate *some* of it during a year living in Nashville, so I'm glad to see there are a few local country stations in Ottawa. Does anyone know if there are any western-style clubs here? I've always had a thing for girls in boots.

Born and bred in North Bay, Ontario. My dad coached and played hockey well into his 40's. But thanks for reminding me about the "falling down" strategy... I'll have to remember that if I see any cute single women skating near me! "Oops!! Could you give a poor, dumb southern boy a hand, y'all??"

There aren't any full-blown C&W clubs in Ottawa, unfortunately... but there's the Rainbow Bistro on Murray St. in the Byward Market (live blues music, not a gay bar, despite the name). Irene's Pub on Bank Street has live music, including some very good bluegrass on some nights. It's a cozy pub. It's slightly north of the Lansdowne Place stadium.

If you ever want some bourbon, Fatboy's Smokehouse on Murray St. in the Market has that, plus a Southern-style menu.

Oh yes... and welcome to Ottawa.
