Is there anywhere I can find a route map of the new subway system? Also, any recommendations about good neighborhoods that will be close to the future lines and near good shopping, dining, entertainment options?

All the route/stop info and construction stuff is right here:

Ottawa Confederation Line

The main lines will be done in 2018 (some service downtown starting in late 2017). Neighbourhoods... hmm, it will mostly be through the downtown core in this phase. Tunney's Pasture is actually the most hipster/affordable stop, it's just west of downtown and has the Hintonburg and Wellington West neighbourhoods just south of it. Hipster shops and restaurants around Wellington Street, and the Parkdale farmer's market on Parkdale. Lots of condos and office buildings in the area too. If you go east of downtown, probably around the St. Laurent stop would be a good bet (near St. Laurent shopping centre).

THere's also a north/south line (Trillium line), shown on this map in green:

Where - Stage 2 Ottawa

The stop at Carling is beside Preston Street, the main drag of Little Italy. There's still quite a bit of affordable apartments to be found in that area, with condo high-rises under construction as well. Lots of restaurants and Dow's Lake is across the street. Near Chinatown and downtown too.

Further extensions to the train lines are planned for completion around 2023... but that's probably way beyond your planning timeframe.

I can't wait! I can't wait! I'm almost definitely going to take one more trip up to Ottawa to check out the new Confederation Line before the decade's end. That and the remodeled history museum.

For the most part cities in Canada build when there are funds to do so and when it's needed. Unlike the ghost cities of China.

I see Botti has become almost half French. The negative half.

If Ottawa doesn't build a subway, Botti: "Ottawa doesn't even have a subway!"
If Ottawa builds a subway, Botti: "Ottawa is FINALLY having a subway!"

Whine whine whine. Must be depressing living a life like that.
