Parents miffed as Brooklyn cafe Oak & the Iris Café nixes weekly kid sing-alongs

I am posting this here just to point out that there are parents who do let their kids go nuts and get defensive and pissy about it. A friend of mine went to these sing alongs a few times with her kids but stopped because it was just out of control.

It's remarkable how truely blind some parents are when it comes to their children. They didn't see anything wrong with how their children behaved, breaking furniture, windows, dishes.

This is precisely the same reason why I stopped going to my local restaurant after they pushed to make it "family friendly". Children are allowed to run loose like wild animals and the parents could care less.

My apologies for insulting wild animals.

"To set yourself up as kid-friendly and then be appalled by a normal range of kid behavior seems bizarre to me," wrote one upset mom.

Her definition of normal and my definition of normal seem to be at odds.

I see this every stinkin day when volunteers come to our school with the younger children in tow. Except they think that just because I'm a teacher at the school, I'm supposed to take care of these younger siblings too.

Favorite line from the article is this one - "I didn't see anybody who truly neglected their kid or let them run wild."
I mean as long as they weren't truly neglecting the kids, but maybe only just a little bit, it's acceptable, right?

Don't people teach their kids anymore about using indoor voices and indoor behavior?

I would have done the same thing. It's weird, and validates the owners, that people are getting upset with them when they were only offereing a service to the community. They don't owe anyone anything.

These parents threatened to "boycott" the cafe and claim this is "normal" kid behavior???? Crazy!
I don't call breaking plates, pulling bottled drinks out of a fridge that isn't yours or jumping on tables "normal" kid behavior. I can guarantee if one of these brats got hurt, the parents would be at a lawyers office before you could blink your eye!

My question is, if these were "singalongs" why are these mongrels running around, etc? Why weren't the parents having the kids sit and sing along with the songs???????

Some parents think it's okay for their kids to disrespect others' property because they're young. Wait until these brats are teens and the parents have to bail them out of jail for vandalism or something worse.
