LOL, the brain isn't fully developed. Give me a break. A teen should know that this isn't gonna work out so well, whether the brain is fully developed or not. And the parents should know that this is the KID'S fault, not the teachers or the schools.

America: No longer a young, prospering republic. Now a decadent empire.

We're hosed. This is what we get for our nationwide epidemic of soft, self-esteem-at-all-costs, no sharp edges, child-proofed, no spanking upbringings and educations.

AMEN!!!

My mother would have pulled my ear while my dad wore out my backside with a belt and then my grandfather would have raised a welt on the back of my head. No lawsuit.

Preach it!

I'd be too embarrassed to sue and thereby put it in the public record that my son was dumber than a bag full of hammers.

I'll bet you anything the parents were contacted by some ambulance chasing lawyer who promised to bring in a butt load of money if he could represent them.

I hope the community is helping to raise funds for the shop teacher to defend himself. That is certainly a cause I would contribute to.

The New Hampshire Union Leader says Dubois' suit contends he suffered permanent brain damage.
I think he already had the brain damage.

Pity people will not live with the consequences of their own stupidity.

There was some suggestion from a poster that the class was not properly supervised and I suspect that that is quite probably true. Given 20 or 30 disrespectful ratbags and one disempowered teacher it is quite possible that the teacher had understandably given up trying to control the class and was simply doing the lesson and those who were interested would have been up there with the teacher and the rest messing around down the back. We need to bring back an expectation of good behaviour by students and respect for teachers.

Why is it that schools and teachers and anyone else on the planet is 'required' to inform a child NOT to be stupid and NOT to attach something electrical to their nipples or any other body part but a PARENT is NOT required to do the same thing??????

Cripes, learn how to parent already and quit trying to force everyone else to do it for you. YOU birthed them YOU should raise them.

Pun was intended

If it was just the one kid involved i would be more willing to jump on the "too dumb to suck oxygen" band wagon. BUT, considering 3 kids were involved, it was in an (obviously) dangerous envirnment, then the teacher should have had a better eye on his class. I do think he is partially to blame. He's also partially to blame for not realizing that the kid was obviously lacking the common sense to be involved in this particular class.
