I still don't see any redeeming benefits of these costumes, and would question a parent's judgement (not out loud) if he or she let her 11 year old wear some of these costumes. I think it's okay to let girls push the limits a little bit on evenings like Halloween, but some of these costumes take it to -- in my eyes -- an extreme. I don't blame the girls for wanting to wear these things, but generally just because kids want something doesn't always mean it's good for them or that they should get their way. They'll have plenty of years in front of them to wear the sexier stuff.

Obviously we'll never agree on that point, though, although I'm still doing my best to understand why people feel like it's okay to have their preteen girls wear some of these outfits.

Another interesting article on the trend of sexy costumes for girls:

I never was a big one for not dressing in a certain manner because of what other people think. I think that's a big disconnect.

I think it is just a sign of the times!!!

Women love being naked so why not be as close to naked as possable??

In all honesty... GOOD! Women should DRESS LIKE "sluts" the more we dress like "sluts" the more it will become common place. And then with time these stupid derogatory names for women will be gone.

Why is dressing like a "****" empowering? Because we are slowly breaking the mold, slowly but surly busting down on the words of hate used against women that love their body.

But it doesn't bother you that these aren't women? These are girls. These costumes don't even highlight their current bodies, but rather use strategically placed ruffles and cinching and ruching to create the appearance of a woman. In that sense, marketing these costumes to girls who haven't yet completed (and in many cases are just entering) puberty doesn't make any sense from the "love your body" standpoint. Maybe when they're 16 or 18, but not at 10, 11, 12. I'm all for loving your body and feeling empowered, but my opinion is that these costumes for girls that young has the potential to do just the opposite.

Perhaps if it was an every day thing you might have a point. As it stands, IMO, one day a year for like 12 years or so is not going to have the effect you believe it will.

Everybody knows that all the fun starts AFTER the party. Once again, this year, I searched without success for a suitable Happy Samhain card for my Pagan friends. Any ideas for something on line? (I usually rubber stamp something but would love to find something "legit".)

A couple of friends have gotten into Dio de los Muertos this year BTW. Was able to find suitable gifts that way. (They get me Christian items so I try to respond in kind.)

I think that it is great that you find gifts suitable for their holiday and that they do the same for you. I hate when people don't even acknowledge the holidays their friends celebrate even if they are different from what they celebrate. Tolerance is a wonderful thing.

For next year, here is a great place to order cards for your Pagan friends:
Pagan Holidays Cards, Greeting Cards for Pagan Holidays

And tell them HAPPY Samhain and Blessed Be from me
