There is a man in my local paper who was convicted of molesting a 4 year old and sentenced to 4 years in prison with all but 9 months suspended, and 12 years probation. The paper described the crime as the worst offense you can commit, other than murder. This apparently happened sometime in 2009.
In June or July of this year (Less than a year after he was put in jail) he was released.
Apparently he ended up living with some people who had a 12 year old daughter. First off... why didn't he complete his sentence, let alone HALF of it. Second, why would this family allow him in there home. Third, why would the STATE allow him to live there, especially if he was supposed to be on probation.
Would you allow him to come stay with you if you had a 12 year old girl?

Well, 4 days after his release, he raped this girl. And now "He faces up to 30 years in prison". Which comes off as a complete joke.

It's a preposterous question. Is there a link to the newspaper article? It sounds like we're missing out on TONS of information. You can't come to conclusions about anything based only on what you posted.

Because all states have varying laws on sex offender registries. There should be a federal law mandating it and not left over to the states.

None of the articles (there were a few) explain how it was, that the guy was living in the house with the 12-year-old kid.

I didn't find anything indicating that the family even knew him prior to his living there. So my question would be, why would a family with young children allow ANY stranger to live in their home without a security check first?

Assuming they had no idea he was a sex offender...why would they let him live there anyway? What was the relationship between him and this family, that the family would allow him into their home?

Unfortunately there's no information about the family, or what led them to conclude that it was okay for this guy to live in their home.

Sex offender registries don't do anyone any good if the family doesn't look to see if someone is listed on it.

No way, José.

The sex offender registry system is far from perfect and there are a lot of innocent people on it and a lot of other people who should be on it but aren't, but it's just not a chance worth taking.

I wouldn't let any man (other than her father) live in my home with my 12 year old daughter.

This guy is facing 30 years?? I wonder how much time the parents are facing??? They're the ones who put this child in harms way by allowing this scum to live in their home.

I'm wondering, too, how he came to live with them?

Which is why i think when you are convicted of a gross sex crime against minors that you should be required to live in monitored facilities from then on. The re offense rate for people like that is just too high to play games with.
