I have always washed clothes/towels every day. Lately, my young adult children leave their towels on the floor and when I complained about them doing that, they said "at college, I only wash my towel once a week" - I told my husband this and he told me when he was growing up, that's what they did.
OK, so maybe I'm wrong. Let's hear what you think.
What is your question? If they should leave towels on the floor (no) or if they should only do laundry once a week? I live in a dry climate and I don't wash towels every day. If you hang them up, they dry and can be used for a couple of days. I am assuming of course that one only dries off using a towel when one is fresh from the shower and clean....
There was a very lengthy and TMI thread on this in the politics forum a while back. It might be worth searching for. I use the same bath towel for up to a week. We live in a dry climate and they dry quickly. I change hand towels every couple days, though. They shouldn't be leaving their towels on the floor then re-using them, though.
I also put used but dry towels in a hamper and wash them when it gets full. Washing towels every single day seems like a waste of water, time, and electricity, to me.
I think the OP is asking if we wash towels every day, after each use, or once a week.
I certainly don't wash bath towels after each use. I wash them weekly or two times a week. How often I wash them depends on the weather. If it's really humid in the summer, they are washed more often. If it's super dry in the winter, I wash my towels more often because I use body oils to keep my skin from being dry. But I'm only washing my towels more often in the winter because nobody else in the house is using body oils. I do change hand towels everyday, but they only get washed with the hand towels once a week.
I have to say this thread gave me a chuckle. Most parents are complaining that their children use a new towel everyday because it's more laundry. (That's me---my children use more towels per week than they should, but that doesn't make me wash a load of towels any sooner.) The OP is complaining that her children are using one towel a week. If I were her, I'd be complaining that they were leaving them on the floor---they're getting dirty and can't dry laying on the floor.
i know a few people who wash after every use, tho i myself and my family and most of the people i know (and have somehow got to this point in conversation) wash either once a week or twice a week
Shortly before he was due to come home for Christmas break, I asked my college freshman how his bedding was holding up in the dorm washing machines. He told me he hadn't washed his sheets, since August. Yuck! I sent him away with two complete sets, the extra one is still in his closet. He didn't see the need to wash them, since he showers every night before bed. I guess he never noticed his sheets are changed weekly at home, and have been for 18 years.
But, towels, yea, he washes them whenever he does laundry. I bought some quick-drying ones for school, and I want to replace the towels in the entire house with the same type. My kids do hang them up, either on a hook or throw them over the shower curtain rods, but I like a clean towel at least every other day.
That's what happens when a kid gets their laundry done for them the entire time they live at home! My mom had me doing laundry from about the age of 10 so I knew what I was doing once out on my own. I had a friend who couldn't even turn the washing machine on when I was 21.
My mother washed our towels once a week. There were 7 of us in the house and not that many towels so it was wise to let it dry and reuse it if you wanted one the next day.
In my house a towel goes in the hamper once used and when the hamper is full I wash them. I don't really mind the extra wash or two a week.
When I was in college I had 2 towels and I used a different once every other day and washed them quite often because I was really into fluffy towels. I also washed my robe twice away because I liked it to be super fluffy and smell like lavender.
Now that I live in an apartment and I have to go to the basement and do laundry I wash everything less and I have about 6 towels and 3 robes.
