I always loved watching little ones hunt for easter eggs but I'm wondering when other moms decide their kids are too old. One community church here has cut off age at 8. One of my daughters just turned 9 and I know she would like to partake.
We will have something here at home but at what age does your community close participation?
I don't know...my mom was still having us hunt eggs in her backyard last year. My kids are 20 and 24 and I'm 52. LOL.
I think our city does an egg hunt for kids under 12.
I never did community Easter egg hunts (to my knowledge) when I was a kid. I think I hunted for them in my backyard until I was 10 or 11.
I think it's reasonable to have an age limit because older kids can get pushy. I do like how someone said their hunt is divided up into age ranges. I looked up my city but it doesn't have an age range listed.
Go anyway. Its not like they are going to Card her....
Ones ive seen send the kids out in age/grade groups so the little kids get some eggs. Also the pre-school aged one egg are just out in plain sight. Older kids actualy need to search some for them
We never do a public egg hunt. It's always in the back yard. Maybe your church isn't so large that they can have two hunts, one for the little kids age 2-5 and the other for big kids 6-10.
We always did our egg hunt at home until we were far too old because my mom liked it, but I can understand why your church has to have a cut off if they don't have enough kids and eggs for 2 separate hunts. The older kids usually want to get as many eggs as possible and it kind of stinks for the little ones who can't move as fast. Having a 10 year old out there with 2 year olds is too much IMHO. I'd say 8 is an okay age to stop it, but if it is a problem because of the ages of your kids maybe everyone skips the church hunt this year and you just do one at home on your own? Or maybe the 9 year old helps a younger sibling hunt for their eggs instead of hunting for her own. Sometimes we color coded the eggs to make sure everyone got the same number to account for large age differences where one child can find them faster. Plus that way you can control how hard the hiding places are for the older kids, make them simpler for the younger kids.
A couple of years ago I went to one my sister was hosting in her back yard. I found out her FIL was stuffing $20.00 bills into some of the eggs. Dang near joined the kids myself!
