Hibiscus are beautiful. I can't grow them. They have to be brought inside for the winter. Every one I've tried has never survived the winter. I don't know how to take care of them inside.

I want to try hydrangeas. I've never had them and they're so pretty. They seem to grow here better than hibiscus. Worth a try at least.

Hopes - the high altitude, WRT the sun, means that the sun is more intense. You burn faster here - sunscreen is necessary year round. And, if your garden is in the sun, that is stressful on many plant types also. That and the dehydration that comes with the aridity.

Yep - no can do on hybiscus either - although I do think there are varieties that can "winter"....I think they require more acidic soil than we have.

what to do with my sunday night now that Mattie's thread is closed? Oh I'll look at the chat thread.

I'm in North Carolina 7b and can grow hibiscus year round. That is if I can keep the deer away from them. I should know the variety but don't remember now.
Maciesmom where are you?

Oh, man. CNN is reporting a MAJOR tornado has hit Joplin, MO. That's one of my favorite small towns. Horrible news.

We don't have any Ozarks people on chat do we? Because they need to turn their weather radio on.

I have one in the front yard that has really pretty purple, what I like to call "fluffy" flowers, for want of a better description. So I guess we get a few different varieties here in Philly. Don't have any idea hat they're called either.

I don't know anything abou soil or such. I just stick em in hopefully the right sun spot and hope for the best.

It obviously has hit a nerve with many of us. Either way you look at it, Mattie is suffering. I'm glad my son and daughter will probably not ever want a showy wedding. My adult daughter won't even wear jewelry-not even a watch and rarely wears makeup. I almost had to break her arm to get her to wear a beautiful necklace with her formal for the prom.

Thing is I have a small fortune in jewelry as I loved the stuff in my younger days. I turned a corner some time ago and haven't even worn my wedding diamonds in years--mostly cause I gained weight and refused to resize them

Maybe the 2 little girls will want my jewelry but I have been tempted to sell it all now that gold is so valuable. I wonder if most women lose interest in jewelry as they age?
