I was wondering how many of you are finding it to be harder to shop each year for your child especially in the toddler years?
The weather in our area has cold off so I am going to purchase Toddler X winter coat and staples this weekend. I went online and was shocked at the sticker prices for some of these clothes. A coat for a 2T toddler nearly $70.00 from Gymboree.
Really $70 for a small coat????
I checked out my local Walmart and Target and it seems that everything they get in clears out faster than the Missoni prints.
I buy a lot of kid clothing used either at thrift stores or consignment shops. If I'm buying new I usually stick to Old Navy or Target. Gymboree is pricey but the quality is much better then Old Navy or Target. Kid consignment shops can seem pricey at times but you can usually get the higher quality stuff in excellent condition for Old Navy or Target sale prices.
After Christmas, most stores have coats at 40 or 50 percent off. Like the person who said do JC Penney clearance and buy a size up--that's the time to buy.
If you're the type that needs fancy brand names, you're going to have more of a problem, of course, but even so, you can still get sales.

Oh no way. I am not the type to buy fancy brand names especially for kids. Its just prego fog brain that I could not figure out other stores to buy from and was shocked by sticker price.
I buy second hand also. And, if you have friends or relatives with older kids, they're usually more than happy to get rid of their unwanted clothing. For everyday things I go to Sears, they have a Kids Club where you get discounts after spending so much. Or WalMart, Target, or any other discount store. But for the most part, I don't buy too many new clothes. Kids usually outgrow things before they're worn out, so most used clothes look almost new. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to spend a lot of money for something that my dd can wear for all of a few months.
Children's Place. I shop the sales, which are frequent; they send me coupons; and I raid the clearance rack. I recently got two V-neck sweaters for my son for $3 apiece. They won't fit him until next year, but they are nice sweaters.
Their non-sale stuff is expensive. I saw a coat I liked there for $70 too. Every now and then I get a coupon for 40% one item, so the planets might align. Jeans on sale are around $10 to $15, T-shirts are about $5, henleys or button-ups are something like two for $15, sweatshirts are $10-ish. Their shoes are pretty crummy, so I get those at Kohls. I can frequently find cheaper things at Target but I likethe quality of Children's Place better. It's worth a couple dollars more to me.
I've never bought girl things there but I imagine they have similar prices.
