Have Any Parents Watched This Show? What Are Your Thoughts? Anyone Here Have An Out Of Control Kid?

I Don't Have Kids But I Have Several Younger Relatives Who Act Like The Kids In This Show (Though It Almost Seems A Bit Staged or Fake) Do You Think Programs Like This Are Truly Effective? Long Term Or Short Term? I Think For Some Kids It Would Take A Lot More Than A Jail Program For Them TO Change Their Ways, I Think The Jail Visits Just Spooks Them For A Couple Of Weeks Then They GO Back TO Their Old Ways...

A&E Beyond Scared Straight

This Show Makes Me Somewhat Scared To Have Kids

No, I haven't seen the show. Looks like a bunch of people screaming in kid's faces. Should be called Screamed Straight.

I have watched the show a couple of times. I wonder if these kids really do change or do they go back to their old ways? It is a good show, bit it is very formulaic.

Ive always wondered what the kids are so scared of. Obviously nothing is going to happen to them. The kids in these shows are usually suburb kids who like attention. Let some kids from my neighborhood go in there lol they would just laugh in the inmates faces.

I watched the on with the 15yr old runaway and the bf/gf with MIP's.

Besides the 15 year old who ran away and OD'd on pills and the 19 year old drug dealer I didn't see anyone who needed to be scared straight.

They live in a college town....what 18 year old ISN'T going to drink?

There ARE 18 year olds who don't drink.

Always have been, always will be.

i worked with the kids in the nj program years ago---it did work with some and my attitude and that of the staff was if it set even one kid out of 20 back on the right path then it is worth it

I think this is probably the goal. If it helps one kid then it was worth it. I imagine there is also some benefit of the program for the prisoners who participate. Understanding what they did, accepting the consequences and then talking about it is something that I imagine is therapeutic. While I'm sure not every kid is impacted by this, I wonder how many inmates are when they see themselves 20 years ago in the kids faces and realize how much they have lost?

I also think this is something that would have a greater impact on a younger kid, say around 12 then an older kid.
