I've thought about this. Used to be a lot of Michaels and Roberts. Used to be a lot of Cynthias and Michelles.

Now, there are a lot of "last name" first names, like Taylor or Morgan, which I personally can't stand.

A lot of girls are now named Ashley and Nicole. Boys tend to be named Alex or Josh. Not many Roberts, but still quite a few Michaels.

BONUS question: Does anyone with the last name Hunt, in their rightful mind, name a new baby boy Michael? Something to think about.

I am going to ignore the attempt at 6th grade humor.

As for my daughter, Chloe, her name was chosen based on its meaning, family history and the fact it is nearly the same pronunciation in her grandmother's language (Kahloe). My sister is named Vanessa and her grandmother would butcher it.

We decided to combine both my husbands Grandmother Mary with my Great Grandmother Madlena and came up with Marilena. It is pronounced Marilayna. At school she just goes by Lena

Our eldest was named for her great-great-grandmother. Her middle name is the feminine of my husband's name.

We didn't know whether our middle child was a boy or girl, so we chose a unisex nickname. Her name is the longer feminine version, and her middle name is my sister's name.

Our son's name was chosen because it fits with his sisters' names. His middle name is my husband's godfather's name.

We named our son Ben Gay. Not really. We don't have a son. We both presented each other with girl names we liked. Then we crossed off the names that we hated from the other person's list. We chose the name we both liked the best. I had names I loved even more, but my husband nixed them and vice versa.

I literally cannot remember when or how my son's name (Katon) came to me, but it had been a name I would always give to the main character in any video games I played, starting somewhere in the 90s. He's about to turn two.

I'm surprised at how many people have known how to spell his name (without knowing they know, of course). At first, it kind of concerned me. But then I figured these days, one might say their name is John and be asked, "Now is that with an 'h' or without?"

This is what we did with dd#2. Dd#1 was named after one of dh's ex girlfriends. He was determined to have a daughter with that name. For dd#2, we went through about 30 names before we found one we both liked.

I wanted names for boys that were African or Arabic or Middle Eastern. For girls, Caribbean or Latin American.

My husband wanted a classic and timeless name that was simply spelled and not "hippy" lol. We went with Emily her middle name is the same as my sisters middle name and his aunts first name Nicole. So we had a connection to both families.
