Instead of bowling alley or laser tag birthdays, Texas parents will soon be able to host parties at a less traditional venue, a family-friendly gun range set to open this summer.
The range will have two rooms for children's birthday parties so the young partygoers can attend a class and then fire a few rounds before cake and presents.
I would definately schedule a birthday party there. Better to have children familiar with the guns they are around and you get to bring cake too .
Well I can see having a paint-ball party. I don't know about inviting other people's kids to a shooting range party but I suppose it's up to the parents if their kids will go or not.
I don't see the problem with kids at a shooting range, but the adult to child ratio needs to be one to one and the range safety officer needs to be watching carefully. Even adults will do dumb things at the range occasionally.
I don't participate in shooting sports, but I have to cover them for a local newspaper. Gun ranges generally adhere to very strict safety standards.
I doubt party goers would be allowed to walk around with loaded guns and they probably would only be allowed to shoot under the direct supervision of an adult.
I'd let my child go (providing I trusted the parents of the party child) but I'd tag along to check things out.
I'm sure this is a regional thing. It wouldn't raise eyebrows where I live, but I can't imagine such a place in an urban area where people don't generally own/shoot guns.
I have no quarrel with people shooting at shooting ranges, but I think it is a weird idea for a birthday party. I am living in Texas and hate living here.
