Fantastic idea. College graduation ceremonies need to be banned too, because they offend people who never attended or graduated college. But we can't celebrate high school graduations either, because some people didn't get to finish high school.
I am closing the thread because 1) it's getting hostile and 2) it was four months ago. I know eventually someone will open another one and we can fight more then.
I think it's important to remember that the school cancelled the events because they were against Rhode Island law, which does not allow school events to exclude a particular sex with no equivalent event--for instance, moms can never go the school dance because there is no dance for mothers, only baseball games. The mother who complained didn't change anything about the law. That's why the school promptly complied.
Many states have added laws that supercede federal laws about gender segregation, and that's why some IL junior highs do have father-daughter dances, while RI does not. That's not the fault of the mother in the article. The voters have to get out there, if it's really that big a deal to them and not just a bunch of grouching on the Internet.
