I loved it when my brothers and I were farmed out separately! LOL I could get all of the attention while staying with grandma or auntie or whoever, and I'm sure they liked the arrangement as well.
Ah yeah the extra attention was nice, and was good getting a break from living with 4 boys!
The longest I have been away from either of my kids is 2 nights in a row so far, and my oldest is 7. The first time I was away from either of them overnight was when they were about 3 years old. We go on vacations, but we usually just go together as a family.
Lucky all of you who had grandparents to care for your children. From the time our children were born until they graduated from high school my husband and I had one weekend away (while my brother & SIL cared for our first child) and that was to attend a reunion not a romantic vacation.
Oh the other hand, my husband's sister and her husband took many, many, many weekend and week and two week long vacations starting from the time that their son was a baby until he was a teenager. But Grandma & Grandpa (my husband's parents) lived only a ten minute drive away from them vs. 1,000 miles away from us.
I'm not really complaining because we enjoyed traveling together as a family but it would have been nice to have the option of a romantic weekend or vacation without kids even once every five or ten years of marriage. .
Isn't that the truth! We had no grandparents around, either. When the kids got older,we'd go visit the GPs in Nebraska and stay at a motel while they stayed with G&G.
Our oldest was 4 months old. It was a work function we had to attend. It was only for 3 days. I pumped, he was fine. We took a parent's only trip every year when the kids were younger. We usually had a grandparent stay with them. They had a blast, so did we!
If your 8 month old is still nursing every 2 hours he needs solid food.
My parents used to leave us with their friends and have a weekend alone at least once a year. I think it started when I was 5 or 6. I was 13 or 14 the first time my mother decided I could stay home and watch my sisters while she went out of town. That was a lot more fun, although the food wasn't as good as when we stayed with a friend.
Personally, I'm not big on vacations and I've never been anywhere without my kids. I have a lock on my bedroom door and hubby and I get plenty of alone time without having to leave town.
