Interesting. Parents do have the responsibility of monitoring the social media lives of their kids. The parents of the kids threatening to kill that kid are failing to do their job.

Actually kids these days raised on movies and video games DO NOT realize there are consequences for their actions in the "real world". They will go ahead and assault someone, then suddenly learn about those consequences. Learn they can't hit "RESET" and all is well...

So DO call the police when there are threats like this - at a minimum you will be teaching the kids about the consequences of their actions.
