With you being so anti-porn, how in the heck would you know anything about this?
You are not the only one with an opinion of what is right or wrong.
Nor are you. Isn't it wonderful that we can all share our opinions here?
Just because I am anti-porn doesn't mean I've never seen it before. Since I am anti-porn it would make sense that I'd know a fair bit about it, doesn't it? FWIW I have a big interest in sociology and psychology. Plus, as I've said before I support anti-human trafficking and slavery organizations, many of which combat the crimes I've talked about here.
Are you serious? I challenge you to find a thread here on CD about personal grooming or the natural look and not find people making disgusting jokes and acting like preteens about the whole thing.
There are porn actresses who are now very famous and successful that we know they are of age, consensual, and rich (definitely not exploited). So your teenage son can watch these instead?
Not in my house.
Very early on in this thread I thought I said I believe pornography creates an unhealthy view of sex and women in general. On the whole, I find very little to applaud the sex industry for and choose not to support it.
Well then thats it; just say "No porn in this house" and let that be the end of it. Should be no different than saying "no smoking, drinking, loud music, etc etc etc". Although personally if and when i do see porn i dont start weeping over thoughts of sex trafficking and all that. That would ruin my sex life.

My sex life isn't ruined because I care about the dignity of other human beings. Quite the opposite actually. But to each his own, right?

Sounds to me that not only have you watched it, but you watched it a lot recently.
I can't help but to wonder why since you are so outspoken against it. If that doesn't make one a hypocrite I do not know what does.
What was my response to your post supposed to be so it met with your approval?
You didn't ask any questions. I've said previously I view pornography, which is also legal, in the same vein as alcohol and nicotine. Might be legal, many teens might do it but I don't want it in my house. Quite simple really.
I am aware many adults choose to be in the business. I am also aware many adults do not choose to be in the business. Others choose to be in the business but are coming from abusive childhoods, have mental health issues etc. Since I don't know which people I'd be watching I'll play it safe and not support the industry.
I said you dodged the "issue." which you brought up by comparing porn to drugs. I didn't say question.
BTW, I do have one. Since you are the author of: "But at 14 I'd confiscate them and punish him," what kind of punishment do you have in mind for a 14 year old looking at girlie magazines?

If I heard a guy actually say, "I only watch so-and-so and so-and-so's films, because I have researched them and I know that they are in full control and consent over their profession," I would have so much more respect for that guy.
But I've never heard a guy say that, ever. More often it's a sentiment like this one:

Which to me equates to, "How could I possibly enjoy my pleasure if I worried about other people?"
Kinda reeks of entitlement and not giving a rat's patoot about whether anyone suffers for your enjoyment or not, which is what Magritte25 is saying she'd rather not raise her son(s) (real or hypothetical I don't know) to be like as human beings. And the point she and I have tried to express is that for most people who are into porn, most guys especially, those women are not people. You assume it's all consentual and fine, but you don't know or care, really. And honestly, some of it...a little or a lot, but absolutely SOME...is exploitative and harmful.
And regardless, it furthers the mentality that other people don't matter as long as you get yours. Which is all too pervasive in a million aspects of American society anyway, as we become more isolated, entitled, and selfish as people here.
I would in fact much prefer a more above-board, legal, and less seedy sex industry in our nation if it were up to me. I have no problem with women (or men--any consenting adults really) doing sexual things for money, on or off camera. It's one of those things we have established that human beings are just going to DO whether it's legal or not. I'd support better regulation of the industry to protect the rights and interests of those participating...like fair wages, safe working conditions, and decent health care. But as it stands, the environment is one that nurtures, allows, or even encourages exploitation of various kinds. There is nothing wrong with challenging the way we think about this industry.
And to me it speaks volumes that some people are so defensive about their enjoyment of porn. Not that you're bad people for viewing it, but rather that you don't want to consider what might be going on with the people you look at, and shut out the possibility that maybe their lives aren't very good or they might not be enjoying what they're doing as much as you want to think.

I haven't watched it in about 3 years or so. Not since I learned about everything I spoke about here. Call me a hypocrite. I don't care. When I learn about things I change my behavior accordingly. I'm not one bit ashamed by my change in attitude either.

You still haven't demonstrated how I dodged the issue. I addressed it twice now.
If it was after the initial confrontation, I'd take away privileges just as I would for any other infraction.
