My 8 year old son has the "stomach flue". It started on Wednesday with him vomiting that morning. I kept him home from school. The next day Thursday, he said he was feeling better so I sent him to school again. Big mistake. Friday morning he threw up twice, and it continued Saturday with him throwing up first thing in the morning. He slept on and off all day Saturday and went to bed for the night around 4pm . He didn't wake up again until 7 am this morning. He is now sleeping again. I thought 15 hours of sleep would be enough but he is still so tiered and drained.
If he is not better by tomorrow I will take him to the doctor. This is the first time he has been sick this long from a stomach virus. Usually it only last 24 to 48 hours.
Have this ever happen to you?
Also, I got sick in between but mine was very brief.

This has happened to my kids a couple of times. Most recently, one of them had a day of sickness and then seemed fine the next day but then threw up in the middle of the night a couple of times. This continued for two weeks. She would be fine during the day and then wake up in the middle of the night with a stomach ache and throw up. The doctor said that it was most likely a virus and that we should just let it run it's course. I was so relieved when it finally ended. Stomach bugs can last for awhile. I think ours went on for 14 days.

Sounds like a trip to the doc is in order. If he isn't holding down any fluids, he needs to go to urgent care

I'd probably take him to the doc for a virus lasting that long. When my kids get something like that, it is usually gone in 24 hours.

It happens. If he doesn't vomit again, I don't know that the doc is necessary. Plenty of fluids & rest. Sounds like he hasn't thrown up since early yesterday?

Our school policy says you can't go to school if you've vomited or had fever within 24 hours.

Take him to the doctor. One of my kids had a sinus infection that I thought was a stomach flu. It was my first experience with that. Poor kid could have been on the road to recovery faster if I had acted faster.

Sure, it happens...Just keep the fluids in him...get some pedialyte if you're worried about his nutrition.and let him sleep as much as he can.
Doctors visit sounds like a waste of time to me, unless it goes on for many more days.
It's really not uncommon for a child to be ill for a week or so.

Thanks to you all. He finally got rid of it and is back in school as of Tuesday. This morning my other kid threw up again. But I think it's from bouncing around too much after eating....

I called to make an appointment and they didn't even want to see him. Just told me what you pretty much said.
