Day care here is between about $100-$190/day/child. Everyone receives $7500/child from the govt to contribute to these costs. If you earn under a certain amount / annum you get even more $ back. Even if you have your childs name down from birth, there's no guarentee you have a place in a centre. So add to the cost, placing your name on several lists at $50+ a pop!
You are definitely better off using an aupair if you have more than 1 kid. Nanny's are about $25/hr depending on experience and qualifications.
The costs are huge especially considering day care workers are some of the lowest paid in the work force. & so incredibly important. Our carers have all been wonderful people.
Day care is no more than rent though. Now that's insane (our cost of rent/mortgage that is!).
