Hello everyone - Need some advise on extracurricular activity for my 7 year old girl. She is currently in a summer swim team and the plan was to continue on with year round less intense swim team. She has been chosen to be in her dance studios dance team which requires 6 hours/ week practice of various classes. I am in a fix as I dont want her to do both as it will be so taxing on the little girl along with school work . Suggestions on how to handle this please ? Which one would you choose and why ? We are so torn . I havent told her about her making the dance company yet.

Sit her down, talk to her, and see which one she prefers to do.

Yup. This is an easy one. The choice should be her own.

That's when you break the news to her, gently of course, that she has to choose. There just isn't enough time in her day to do both. Help her list the pros and cons of each activity to make the decision easier.

Yup, exactly this. Tell her she can only pick one, then have her pick. Help her write a pro con list if it will help. There are many choices I make for my daughter, but this isn't one of them.

I personally like swimming better so I would choose swimming. I feel like Dancing is harder on the body in long run.

No 7 year old should be practicing 1 sport year around or having 6 hours of an organized dance practice per week. You need to dial it back.
