We don't lie period, if it's something we don't want to talk about we politely tell the person " It's not something I am comfortable talking about but thank you for your concern" I don't want to encourage lying for any reason.

Simple. She's not feeling well, and the doctor felt it was best that she not swim right now.

Friend: "Well, that's what you said last week about why you didn't go swimming."
Suzy: "Oh yeah, right".
Friend to someone else: "Suzy didn't really have an ear infection. I bet she was on her period".

Wearing a wad of cotton in one's ear with an ear infection went out a few decades ago.

Boom! "O, what a tangled web we weave when first we practise to deceive!"

You, my dear, are a fallow field. Want some ocean front property near Ogalalla, Nebraska? I'll sell it to you cheap.

What on earth are you talking about? If you think you could pull that off, you really have another think coming. I think these people who are saying "make up some story and embellish it (with a wad of cotton in this case) are the same people who say "I can't drive on that field trip; my grandmother died and I'm going to her funeral that day". Then someone figures out they've had about 10 grandmothers die.

White lies are the new in thing and are everywhere. Until you realize that, I'd suggest you give me all your money and credit cards to hold on to until you wise up. I promise I won't spend any of it.

You are soooo gullible. And you think you're the only one.

For heaven's sake, give her a tampon and put her in the pool! That's the dumbest reason for not swimming I've ever heard. It's not 1950 any more, there is no reason for women and girls to be controlled by their menstrual cycle or to go into seclusion because she is "unclean".
