My daughter has swimming in phys. ed. next week. Of course, she will be menstruating. Because of a medical condition, she is unable to use tampons. Her doctor wroter her a note excusing her, which is great. I just don't know what she should tell her classmates that ask why she isn't swimming.
I remember back in my day a girl that sat out of swim class, and she was talked about behind her back and even ostracized. (Hopefully that's not the case nowadays.)
Help?
Op , how old is your daughter. I got my period when I was 13 and we just told it like it was. "i'm on my period, I can't swim"...and all the girls understood and agreed. The guys just got freaked out..lol.
I mean, it's natural. My best friend got her period when she was 11 and even she said told the truth.
Big deal for some, not for others... My 14 yo daughter would be fine to announce it - she's outspoken. My friend's 14 yo is too embarrassed/petrified to even wear a swimsuit in PE (and she has a model's body), so she got some sort of "doctors note" to get out of PE for that.
There is sometimes a place for the white lie... This is an inconsequential situation where she may just want to immediately stop the speculation and a ready excuse is handy, especially if a particular hormonal, sensitive kid is just too embarrassed (maybe even mortified) to blurt out the truth.
Simple... she's not feeling well. No need to go into detail that she might find embarrassing.
It's nobody else's business any way. The girls may figure it out, the boys probably won't give it a second thought... like hmmm why doesn't she feel good??
Much ado about nothing IMO.
Even if someone did "find out" it's a natural occurrence that we women go through. Nothing to be shameful about or shamed for.
She shouldn't swim anyway on the first few days after coming sick. You can get cramps! I remember when that happened to this girl in my class, Elaine. It was not a pretty scene. And by the way, no square dancing!
See "Mollie Grows Up" (Prelinger Archives, videos) for up to date complete information on this topic. [actually it's a great movie, have popcorn ready, and read my review]
Perfectly normal. Girls know why other girls are missing swimming. We all know what it's like to be a girl! I wouldn't worry about it.
Yeah well I remember in 6th grade sitting out and this boy names Jon kept asking me over and over and over again why I wasn't swimming...he wouldn't drop it. Other guys started asking. I was mortified. Many of the girls weren't menstruating and many who did just used tampons.
So...it might not all be that easy
