My only child will likely be attending his senior prom stag with his friends. Do you think I'd embarrass him by getting him a boutonniere, or is standard procedure to do so? Thanks.

While it probably varies from place to place, when my children attended prom the girl purchased her dates boutonniere and he purchased her corsage. They discussed this in advance so the colors and types of flowers matched. So he may be embarrassed if you buy it for him.
Now, if a bunch of boys or girls attended stag they often ordered their corsages and/or boutonnieres as a group so they matched or coordinated.
Just ask if he wants one, or if there are any other accessories he wants instead. The pocket square is a good idea. You can get them already folded and sewn so he doesn't have to mess with folding it.
This is what I would do. I'd ask my son if his group of friends would like to have their bouttoneirs color coordinated. Probably carnations would be the best choice. You can buy, but the kids should get together and decide.
Thanks! I would ask him, but apparently everything I ask is stupid.
Sorry but this made me laugh! I've raised 3 teenagers myself so I totally get that! My youngest daughter went to homecoming with friends in the fall and I was in the same dilemma, do I buy her a corsage or not? I did and she did wear it for a bit then took it off. Unless she goes with a boy next time and he buys one for her, I'll save the $25 (the cheapest one they had!).
