I wonder if this a nationwide effort of some sort? The reason I ask is that they tried to do that in Lafayette, La (and maybe other places in La.). They scheduled it, then it was cancelled. I don't know if the local people stopped it, or it was cancelled because no one signed up.

It was this same thing...a drag queen storytime for children. Some of the locals thought it was an attempt to get children to be accepting of transgenders at an early age.

I thought it was unlikely that any kids would be allowed to go, except kids of gay couples.

I think it is odd. Because the point of a story time is the story, right? The person reading the story isn't supposed to be the star of story time.

But I don't have grandkids, so I don't care, really. And they're not doing any harm. The same locals who don't like drag queen storytime would be on board for teaching the kids how to shoot assault weapons, probably. (I mean really...they probably would.) Being accepting of people is a far sight better than being intolerate, hating those who are different, or shooting assault weapons.

Parents that want to take their kids should feel free to do so and those that don't ~ should go someplace else that day.

I don’t understand the point. Drag is entertainment, not a sexual orientation. Drag queens aren’t transgender. It’s dress up.

If the point is to encourage acceptance, why not have gay and trans people do the storytelling, not drag queens. I think the intention is good but I don’t get their angle. And I’m an urban gay man. I wouldn’t judge parents that don’t want their kids going.

Your thoughts on Drag Queen Storytime?

Well, I wouldn't demand it be shut down or anything, but I wouldn't take my kids to it.

The people who run our local library are decidedly liberal but they are not militant leftists as far as I know, so I don't see it becoming an issue here in my lifetime.

Well, this is a truism from all sides of the fence........but you are making the assumption, which is incorrect, that "your own" are the sane ones!

We moved into a nice burb neighborhood in Florida - the woman next door had those meth sores all over her body and her son had been incarcerated many a time. Yet, if they weren't sick and missing teeth and drug addicts, they would be "my people".

I'd say to add to your advice, tell your children....

1. Do not live in a condo or HOA or Apartment
2. Even if you live near a city, etc - get at least a one acre wooded lot.

Then you will likely achieve true happiness.

BTW, this extremely tolerant liberal from the mid-atlantic and new england does not like Drag Queen Story hour....at the same time, I'm not going to protest it, but I won't take our grandchildren there. But it's possible that one of my kids will at some point.

That's what tolerance is. I can't control the world.

BTW, my parents who were very cool in the 1950's....the club scene at that time was very often Female impersonators and my parents always talked about them. My parents don't have a single gay bone in their bodies.....so there must be something entertaining about Drag and such. It's just for me.....that maybe Fred Mercury is about as far as I go (that is, you better do some very cool stuff along with the outfits!).

Drag is a highly sexualised act, it's not appropriate for children and they aren't dressed as women, they're dressed as caricatures of women which can be offensive. Take kids to the panto for age-appropriate cross-dressing.

I do wonder how all these virtue signaling tolerance totalitarians would feel about a person going to a library in a big blue city and reading stories to kids while wearing a MAGA hat.
