Sounds like to me, the parents were never happy with the relationship and took the first opportunity to do something about it.

It is hard for me to believe that there is an 18 yr old male who HASN'T received the speech about sex with underage females. I find it difficult to drum up much sympathy.
Anyone who has raised sons should be horrified by this story. What they are doing to this young man is unforgivable. All young adults are warned about lots of youthful behavior. We tell them not to race cars, smoke, drink and yes they are warned about sex. Young men especially have to worry about these laws regarding age since many of them have girlfriends 2 or 3 years younger that fall on the other side of this line that defines an age of consent. Of course to an 18 year old a 16 old does not look like a child, to him she looks like a peer.

When youth drink at 19 they get MIPS, when they race cars they get tickets but when they get caught with a girl 2 years younger than them they are labeled life long sex offenders. It’s not the fact that we are punishing them that is the problem, it’s the permanence of the punishment that is the problem. In my opinion these types of laws are discriminatory towards men. The real crime here is what is being done to this young man. I’m shocked at how many people are ok with this.
