The world's only nonuplets, in Mali, have finally gone home/The Week magazine/12-23-22

Yes, 9 babies, all at once.

First time I've heard this term.

The 9 babies, 5 girls and 4 boys, were born prematurely and all are doing fine now.

What on earth did her stomach look like prior to birth, I wonder!

And if this happened to you, what would you do?

Selective reduction well before the birth.

We'd have to get outside help, that's for sure. If you had that many babies, it would be newsworthy and people would want to help out with them just so they could say they had had the experience. Even after all the weirdos were weeded out, there would still be enough sincere baby-loving people to make the first year or so doable.

Culling some of the babies would not be an option.

And I'm glad I had my three one at a time. Although it might have been nice to have twins the second time and have it all over with.

The babies just went home at the age of 18 months. The country paid for the best care money could buy to give the kids a good head start.

She will probably have a lot of help from her family and village now that she is home.

What would I do? I'd raise them to the best of my ability. What else could you do? You aren't allowed to drown the ones you don't want and not allowed to sell them.

I'm not looking it up, but was this a natural occurence or the result of fertility drugs? Did the mother have children born before this?
