We gave a silver dollar for the first tooth, because the first tooth was special, then fifty cents for each tooth after. Keep in mind that my kids are college age now, so I imagine it would be about double that now at least.
I give a dollar per tooth. My kids don't know it's me and they get so excited... no one says anything negative about the dollar. If they did, they'd get squat for the rest.
I got little toys- often fairy themed (obviously wouldn't work if you had boys! :P). I'll never forget the little flower fairy toy I got for the first tooth... you planted a little seed in a fairy pot and a flower grew. I think it came with a little PollyPocket like doll too. I think my parents got me the gifts rather than a dollar or so because losing teeth freaked me out so much. *shudder* To this day, I still get cold chills thinking about the teeth coming out or feeling the empty socket. Ugggggggh.
you want to hear something crazy?
my parents used to give me a quarter--and a pack of gum (not sugar free)
