Hi all

The kids all want a digital camera, and now they are so cheap I thought it would make a good gift for Christmas.

I'm thinking of spending around $30-$40 each (3 kids ) and of course they need to be fairly simple to use.

Kids are aged 7, 12 & 14.

I'd like to find a recognisable brand, there a gazillion unknown names out there which can mean after-sales, accessories etc gets tricky to find.

So - any suggestions?

Before my hubby got his newfangeled canon with 80 lenses, we used to use a sony cybershot. My boys then ages 9 and 10 were able to use it with no problems. It takes a decent picture and even has the ability to take short videos.

My dd has a pink one from Fisher Price. I know they come in blue too. It comes with software and a USB cable. It runs on a 9 V battery so that is the only thing you need to replace. My girls use it constantly. It definitly was a great gift.

ETA...the picture quality is not all that great...But my girls (a 2 year old and an almost 5 year old) don't care too much.

Kids' stores make kid-durable, good quality kid's cameras. Usually made of extremely durable material. Those would probably be good. Try Toys R Us.

i would get the 12, and 14 year old one, but maybe get just a cheapo one for the 7 year old (like the fisher price one). Honestly at 7 I would have lost it or dropped it or something. I definalty wouldnt have taken great care of it. Where do you get digital camaras for 30-40 bucks?

We got our daughter one that was a Fisher price. It ran on AA batteries though. It's one of those indestructable types. It works great. Never had a problem with it. But the pictures are absolutely lousy. Maybe the newer ones are better? Man I sure hope so.

I bought dd one of those little High School Musical ones last year. Dummy me should have read the directions. I went and changed the batteries before downloading the pics. The removal of batteries wiped out dd's pictures. She does great w/ a Kodak Easy Share.

Yes...I take back the 9 V...I just changed the batteries today and it runs on 4 AA's. Sorry about that. I must have confused it with one of the other million toys around here. LOL

I just ordered the Vtech one for my daughter from Amazon for $40. I think that was a good deal. She's 5 and I have been researching cameras for a while. I thought to get her one of those hello kitty ones at Target for abotu $50 (they got horrible reviews), but the Vtech ones get good reviews. They might be too babyish for a 12 year old though. Try epinions.com for some other reviews.

We have the V tech childrens camera for our 4 yr old but it would likely be only good for the 7 year old.The pictures once loaded onto a computer though are poor quality as most kid camera's are.
Its more the fun in using it thats exciting for him, we dont reall keep any of the pics he takes.

To be honest I'd just use disposable cameras as stocking stuffers. They take fine quality pics and are cheap incase they stop using them quickly.
