Please let me know if you would do this, I’m a homemaker, so I get to pick up my son from school early, I have a good friend who has a full time job, she’s having some problems picking up her son on time and asked if I can pick her son up when I pick mines up at the same time. She’ll come to my place to pick up her son after she finishes work. Our sons are in the same class, will you do this favor for her? This could be every day now and it might interfere with my normal after school schedule with my son. But I just thought it would be nice to help. Have anyone of you done this before, and what’s your experience with this? Our sons are both kindergarden age.
If you do this today, will you be doing it in two weeks? two months? two years? How are you going to get out of it when it becomes a pain in the rear that you are not being paid for? Believe me it will become a pain in the rear. Soon you will be the babysitter/free daycare. Do you give your son a snack when he gets home? If so will you be sharing? Is there a very firmly agreed upon time she will be picking her child up from your house? What will you do when she decides she wants to go to pick up dinner before she comes home? or Christmas Shopping?
I know these are some far fetched questions....but believe me I did the same thing and eventually that is what ended up happening. Good Luck

so how do you nicely decline? would you do it if you're getting paid for it?
Can you offer to do this not every day but maybe 2-3 days/week? That would help her out and still give you that special time with your son? It is her responsibility to figure out how to juggle this but if you are able and willing, it is nice to offer some help. If you choose to do it I would be clear thought that there may be times that you are unable to help. If you offer, then be dependable, if you don't think you can do that, you are better off just saying you don't think it will work on a regular basis. ....

IF you do this, you need to be compensated for your time. There is no way she should expect you to provide free child care FIVE days a week!

I think it would be nice to help her. And if they kids are friends, your son would probably love the company. What is your after school schedule with your son like? Do you do shopping, that kind of thing? Maybe you don't have to do it every day because of what you need to do, but to let her know you can help out when you can.
How long would he be at your house? I watched my neighbor's son before school for an hour or so and she did pay me. Never had any problems - I did this for several years and then when the one boy was old enough to catch the bus by himself, I watched the younger one. This went on for several years. It was not a huge deal for me since I was up anyway (just meant I had to be dressed! No making pancakes in my jammies....). It really depends on what you are comfortable with....
I think it would depend on how long he would be at your house, how often it would happen, and if she was paying you. If every day for more than a half hour, I don't think I'd do it... unless she's paying you, and you need the money. I once paid a friend to watch my son 2 full days/week, but I PAID her and it had a definite end date.
