Dr. Barnett personally swam my son on one session at the YMCA where my son swam.
It does work but the child has to take refresher courses on a yearly basis.

WOW!! That's pretty cool. I think it's great as long as a parent uses this as one of many precautions and doesn't use it to let up on supervision. Just went to a staffing yesterday about a 12 month old that crawled out the doggie door, mom searched the house for him, found him outside much later in the pool Any prevention is great.
Your right, we must be protective in every aspect when we have a pool, making as many barriers as possible .. we had a net pole fence that we could take down when we had a party.. it though stayed up 99% of the time. Dr. Barnett told me he didn't like my kind of fence and believed in getting a metal one with points on the top.. He told me to never leave the patio furniture accesable to use as a way for them to get over the fence. When he said that, the furniture went out of the pool area and away. He scared me that much...
I wish I had a camera the day he swam him, I did not know he was ever going too. He didn't have as many students I guess that day due to the hurricane we had just days prior. So he was in the water with my son.. He is a very nice man and am grateful he started IRS. He has probably helped save thousands of babies from drowning. It is a great technique.
we know the people who own a similar school.(swimbabes)...they start the babies as newborns and its just amazing! their little one could swim all over the pool before she could walk! It always amazed me, these babies in the pools, w/clothes and shoes on, being able to save themselves....i think a real must for any parent who has a pool or access to any bodies of water.....
