I'm not sure what the tooth fairy pays anymore. Inflation has had a considerable effect since I lost my last tooth. It was generally a dollar in those days.
I usually give a couple of quarters but I have been considering getting some dollar coins and giving those instead.
I remember getting Kennedy half-dollars. I had a particularly nasty and painful surgical extraction of four molars with twisted roots and I got a $20 bill for those.

Wow you reminded me. We can get those gold dollar coins with the Indian lady on em from the Post Office. Those always give the kid's a kick to get a golden coin from a fairy.

Oh, wow! That's a great idea. I just recalled that I got $.50 pieces when I was a child.
A loonie (dollar) and a nice personal note from the fairy. DD put her tooth into a special small bag that we made together (her design, my execution) and the fairy put her note in that bag. DD read the note by herself, which was a feat since there were a few difficult words (she's in K), she was THAT excited.
Oh, and the fairy will keep this tooth forever, because this was the first tooth that appeared when DD was 3 months old. The fairy will probably not care about the other teeth.

Here is some advice from a retired tooth fairy. Stock up on those gold coins! Once the teeth start to fall out it becomes a regular occurance for a couple of years and the tooth fairy would hate to be making a late night run to stores that are still open after bed time in search of a special gold coin!
Get a stash of them and put them in a secret place where only the tooth fairy will find them so that the little sprite has all the tools necessary for her job.
BTW,
Our toothfairy pays $1 and Mr Toothfairy is a bit of a softy and when he remembers to drop in he seems to pay $2 (its one or the other).
Down here in Oz, The smallest note is a $5. We only have $1 and $2 coins
I wonder why it has to be a coin. Why not notes?
