Age and gift giving question

My parents are not from America so there was never any sort of "family" thing going on. No baking cookies or fudge at holiday time or singing Christmas carols or playing board games and like that. It was pretty much all business I guess you'd say. Parents were strict and kids obeyed. I see my sisters have gone completely opposite that and give their kids way too much even when they don't have the money to give.

I am just going to put $20 in a card for Christmas for each and that's it.

It is a start.... I'd eventually get to the place where I'd send them a family photograph or something.... without the $$$$. BTW, do they send you Christmas cards (not from the family if they are out of the home)?
