Looks like nobody thinks much of Lock Haven! I've done some exploration of this town but there isn't much there to justify a visit. Lock Haven University is the major establishment. The downtown area still has quaint storefronts but the shopping options are poor. I ate at the famous diner Texas Lunch and the German restaurant, Dutch Haven Restaurant.

used to be a neat place, rich with crude, yet unique north central pa culture. now its a cesspool of scumbags and breeding ground for gov't dependent slobs.

I work up there on Fridays and sometimes on Saturdays. It's a nice place, not as fast paced as other places, but the university definitely makes the town, otherwise there would be nothing there. Other than the university there isn't much there and the nearest mall from what I can tell is either in State College or Lycoming. Probably a nice place to retire and relax, especially in the summer months. It's definitely busier up in that area during the summer months, lots of cabins and fishing, nice little getaway.

While I wouldn't have said it quite this way, I have to agree. There is nothing there, except the university. It's not a very nice place to visit, let alone live.

Can you guys elaborate? Most small college towns are very nice - with occasional bouts of drunken student mischief. Why is Lock Haven different?

Lewisburg with its Bucknell University is a much nicer town. Lewisburg has some interesting shopping options with several antique markets. The Barnes & Noble college bookstore is quite impressive; three stories with an escalator.

There are many fine restaurants in Lewisburg and you can occasionally see the Amish in town from the farms to the west.

I'm going to Mifflinburg tomorrow for their Christkindl Market. Maybe I will stop in at Lewisburg.

Wow. What does that mean? Are you saying most people are on welfare. I heard it is a small rural community with 9,000 people. I wonder where is the best place to find a job. I can't believe most people are on welfare.

Are most of the residents college students? If not if there is nothing there why do people stay?

no, most of the people are not on welfare, but a lot are. there are jobs around, not a good selection. you either have to have a skill that is in high demand or be willing to settle for low factory wages. there's no real middle ground.
