Hi

I am planning to drive from Minnesota to Princeton, NJ. I need to cross over PA in my path and I have 2 option with almost the same crossing time:

This is my first time in PA. Which route is better ? I like to drive in green nature route with less traffic.

1. Drive all the way through interstate highway 80 :

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=minneapolis&daddr=Princeton,+NJ&hl=en&s ll=40.405131,-77.420654&sspn=3.73913,7.064209&geocode=FSZkrgIdEt 1w-im9u3eTkDOzUjEH7novhMmfkw%3BFbLNZwIdKauM-ynxWdBywebDiTHC1hNKk0nNPw&mra=ls&t=m&z=5]

2. Drive in highway 76 then merge to 70 and continue 76 again :

http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=minneapolis&daddr=39.99565,-78.32963+to:Princeton,+NJ&hl=en&sll=39.3173,-78.464355&sspn=7.595846,14.128418&geocode=FSZkrgId Et1w-im9u3eTkDOzUjEH7novhMmfkw%3BFQJJYgId4shU-ymxUzQkrEvKiTGMTyYy1snMuA%3BFbLNZwIdKauM-ynxWdBywebDiTHC1hNKk0nNPw&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=6&via= 1&t=m&z=6

I do appreciate your input.

80 is a much nicer drive as far as scenery, and it is toll-free. It has less traffic overall, but more truck traffic.

I checked the toll calculator, the I-76 (PA Turnpike) route will cost you $34.40 in cash toll ($29.17 EZ-Pass) whereas I-80 is free. On your link it has you taking US-33 to I-78, which for the eastern portion of the state are much better roads than dealing with Philly traffic. Definitely I-80.

Fulll agreement. The Turnpike can get very congested East of Valley Forge.

If you want to save time, take the Pennsylvania Turnpike. If you want to save money, take I-80.

I hate driving the PA Turnpike, especially at night and especially if it is raining. I think many of the stretches in Western PA (west of Bedford) are dangerous. Unfortunately, where I live, I have no choice if I am headed to Philly or Harrisburg.

My vote is for I-80~the only drawback is getting on/off if you have to stop for rest room or gas. Usually not a big deal, plenty of choices every exit.

Take 80. Do your best to stay away from the roads around Philly because of the congestion and construction. The views on 80 are really nice and you get a chance to see what most of Pennsylvania is really like. If you like hot wings check out a place called Quaker Steak & Lube. There are two locations close to 80, one in Sharon by the Ohio / PA border and one in Bloomsburg, PA.
