We are from Long Island, looking for a mini-vacation Dec. 27-29 a few hours away, in a nice town with things to do. We are 2 adults, early 40's like like to explore, some winter sports, shop and eat good food. Any suggestions?

Well, Bethlehem IS the Christmas City! Christmas City Village « Downtown Bethlehem Association

ChristmasCity.org - Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

Great Main Street with horse drawn carriages, lots of cute stores and great restaurants and special Christmas events including a huge Christkindlmarkt shopping area.

I would suggest staying at the Hotel Bethlehem. Hotel Bethlehem Official Site - Welcome

Hyatt Bethlehem
(Oct 2009) is a much newer hotel right around the corner from Hotel Bethlehem (June 1922), and rooms are probably closer to $110-$120 /night vs $150-$160.

Not everyone wants to pay for nostalgia.

The area outside of Philadelphia that will allow you to visit Andrew Wyeth Museum, Chadds Ford Winery, Longwood Gardens, perhaps day trip to Winterthur, and of course, Philadelphia (museums, great food, markets, history).
