The "Worst" thread is kind of a downer, so I thought we could also discuss some positive growth areas in the Commonwealth. Here are two of my picks:

Cranberry Township: The whole area seems like Pittsburgh "new money" to me. There's a lot of commerical and residential development going on, which is kind of unusual in the deindustrialized Pittsburgh (excluding downtown).

Chambersburg: Its proximity to the capital region and Maryland's DC suburbs is bringing a lot of white collar workers and professionals to the Borough of Chambersburg and surrounding areas. It also has a robust blue collar warehouse industry, but that's true of almost all I-81 adjacent towns. There's a retail boom going on as well.

I am not sure how to reply. I don't see Cranberry as a positive place. It is one of the most expensive zip codes to live in the Pittsburgh region and a typical strip mall suburb that could be found in many other cities, such as Peach St. in Erie. I say zip code because there isn't even a main street. It is all farmland that has been developed. I am not sure what you are looking for. Best suburb? Carlisle outside of Harrisburg?

Phoenixville is a contender. I'd also add in three areas of Philadelphia - Passyunk Square, Fishtown and University City.

It doesn't have to be a suburb, any town/village/MSA/city is open game. "Up and coming" doesn't have to mean depressed to thriving either, although it can, it can also be a case where a smaller town is experiencing growth, rising incomes, etc. through new development.
