Hello,
I currently live in Baltimore City. I need a change of pace and I am seriously considering moving to PA. I like the YoYork, Lancaster, and Harrisburg area, but I would like to know if anyone can recommend some nice areas to get an apartment. I am in my early 30's, a lot of my social life is in MD, but I am tired of MD prices. If anyone could help, I would gladly appreciate it. I went to look at one apartment in York, while the price was good and it was right off of I-83, the apartments looked out of date. I would like to get an apartment close to 83, near some grocery stores and a nice area.

Well I cannot recommend specific places please try to avoid renting from Y*** property management. I am currently renting from them, realized shortly after they are crooks! I wish I could be more of help. I am not looking forward to moving again but can not lease from this management group beyond a year.

Lancaster and Harrisburg would be quite a commute back to Baltimore (especially if you had to be at work for a certain period of time). I agree with above poster, the management company can certainly make a difference. With that being said~to stay close to 83 and be near grocery stores/gym/nice area...check out Shrewsbury. There may be some homes that have been split into apartments in the charming downtown area. Otherwise, further up 83 you can check out Loganville, and a little further north on 83 there are tons of apartment buildings/complexes off of Queen Street (south 74)~some of them might be Dallastown, Red Lion or York Township listings. Be sure and see the actual apartment you'll be renting. A friend of mine rented from a large complex, like the layout and what they showed him, and when he actually went to move in, it was an updated apartment and they charged him more per month. If you have questions about specific complexes, PM me and I might be able to tell you if it's a good area or not. The area around Queensgate Shopping Center and South York Plaza is congested, but safe and seems to rent to many hospital employees and young professionals.
