I think that no matter where you go, you will find a lot to like, but you've omitted one key bit of information: What part of Pennsylvania will you be relocating to?

Pennsylvania is considered an urban state, but has one of the largest components of rural population in absolute numbers; it languished economically for decades, but began a comeback in the Eighties, is considered socially conservative, but has pockets of cosmopolitanism, and a high level of education overall, and has some representation of just about every nationality and ethnic group on the globe.

I'd begin by studying some of the threads in this forum, and contrasting the five sub-forums which relate to our principal urban areas. If you were comfortable in Albany, then Harrisburg / Lancaster / York would be a good starting point. One thing I can promise; the winters wont be quite so harsh.

The suburbs of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh will satisfy most of your wish list including advanced training for nurses and some of the world's finest medical complexes. The best school systems are in the costliest areas so finding a townhouse or apartment in your price range will be tough especially in the Philly burbs.

If you'd like a more rural location, there are 2 large medical complexes you might want to look into: Geisinger in Danville and Guthrie in Sayre.
