Greetings! I am a third-year law student from the greater Philadelphia area. I just accepted a full-time position for after graduation in Chambersburg, PA. My workplace is in the heart of downtown Chambersburg. I am looking for safe, clean, cat-friendly housing in the area. I need a 1 bed/1 bath apartment, hopefully under $800. What are some good areas to start looking that are within commuting distance to downtown Chambersburg?

Why commute? If you're going to work in the downtown area, why not look for a safe place within walking distance?

The ones I have found in downtown Chambersburg say "no pets". I really want to adopt a kitty.

Welcome to Chambersburg!

The first place to look is probably realtor.com.

If you're unable to find anything in Chambersburg, I suggest looking in Greencastle as well. Greencastle is a small town about 10 miles South of Chambersburg.

Chambersburg is currently seeing a huge influx of investment downtown. In the 10 years I've lived here, I haven't seen this much.

1. The county is planning on consolidating all county offices into a new building in Chambersburg's downtown core in a brand-new Courthouse complex.

2. One craft brewery recently opened (GearHouse Brewing Co.) and one is expanding into a very large building (Roy-Pitz Brewing Company).

3. Former Central Junior High School is being renovated into a mixed-use complex with high-end apartments, office space, and educational space.

4. A former bank on Chambersburg's Square is being turned into a new county tourism center and event space.

5. The Fort Chambers building is being renovated.

6. The former Public Opinion newspaper building is being renovated into modern office space.

7. The Public Opinion is moving to the upper stories of a newly renovated building on Chambersburg's Square. The bottom of the building is currently being turned into Square One, a new restaurant by the owners of Inka Kitchen.

9. Chambersburg Borough Hall is being expanded with a new multi-story addition.

10. Chambersburg's Coyle Free Library is being expanded with new event space and more electronic media options.

Like I said previously, I haven't seen this much investment in downtown in my 10 years of living here. It seems like local officials are delivering on creating their vision of what downtown Chambersburg should look like.

I'd prefer a shorter commute. Maybe I am being too picky, lol.

I completely understand. However, in my research, finding a pet friendly apartment may be difficult.

Gotcha. I am going through a rough break-up and I really need a fluffy little therapist with me, or else I'll go nuts.

I completely understand. Have you considered bumping up your budget a little bit?
