I am very happy about this. Quite holding kids hostage and making them have such debt. College is mostly outdated and a money grab.

That's pretty cool and sends a message, as his first official act. Probably a much more effective way of reducing (future) student loan debt than simply handing out taxpayer money to people who can't find a good job in this economy.

I think it's a positive indicator for his tenure.

Correct, this isn’t done to any of the STEM jobs. A-lot of state job’s don’t need it but those jobs could also be automated. Which is currently a problem in our state because if you automate a civil services job, thy have to go somewhere else. Something like that, really confusing.

Just another thinly veiled reverse discrimination action. 51% of whites graduate with a 4 year degree versus 2% of blacks. See where this is going? Don't complain about how bad government services are if you're for such a measure. Seriously.

That still means 49% of whites don't have one, either. That's a non-trivial number. They benefit as well.

I've long said that one of the problems with our modern economy is that we have closed off most of the paths to upward mobility for those without college degrees thanks to the decline of manufacturing. Construction is still an option, but in Philadelphia, that too had historically been closed off to Blacks. But anyway, why require a college degree for a job that really doesn't need one, no matter who gets hired for it?

Otherwise, what Muinteoir said. Jeez.

The way some of you have complained about how stupid PA state employees are I'm somewhat surprised you all are applauding this.

What jobs are these? There are non-STEM fields which also have advanced knowledge needed that's provided by a college degree.

Most government jobs require no special skills, and most college degrees have no real value, so eliminating the requirement for a four-year college degree will make no difference in the quality of the government workforce. In fact, this is a rare instance of an executive, public or private, making it easier for people to get jobs. Anything that makes it easier for people to get jobs should be encouraged.

He should work on raising the wages too. I have a dual Masters and applied for a position comparable to the one I have with the med school in Scranton. It's a position that requires a Bachelors at minimum, generally speaking with the Masters being the preference with employers.

The offer was 50% lower than my present salary before I pay into pension and health benefits, neither of which I do now. Never mind all the other fringe benefits the State of PA does not offer that I currently have.
