We are thinking about relocating to McKean County PA, possibly around Smethport. Is anyone out there able to give me some feedback on the schools/daycares, employment opportunites, and/or nursing homes in the area??

I grew up in Smethport, beautiful town. The schools are great, would love to move my kids back there for schooling, but hard to make a good living in McKean co.

I know nothing about schools or nursing home opportunities, but employment, or better yet, good paying careers will be hard to come by except for employment in health care or possibly with Univ of Pitt at Bradford.

I would look into Bradford PA if you are interested in McKean county. They have a Pitt branch college, a regional hospital, regional airport, shopping ammentities, restaurants, a wide variety of industries for employment and easy access to interstates and main routes for travel. Smethport may be the county seat, but it is a very tiny little town, one of those one traffic light, one convenience store types of villages.

There are 2 glass factories in Port Allegany (Pittsburgh Corning and Saint-Gobain), doubt either is hiring though. Probably plenty of jobs in natural gas drilling.
