This seems to be one of the most variable customs by municipality. Down around Harrisburg it seems many municipalties have a set it out by the curb day. It also seems in those areas that many of the items are, um, recycled before the official collectors come.

In my township one can set out one large item per week on trash day as long as two people can move it. More convenient scheduling for sure, but I wonder if thwarting the unofficial recycling is also part of it.

Just be wary of any recycling efforts they may make. My township had recycling events a few weeks back and I wanted to dispose of some older but still working T Vs. They charged you almost $20 per TV! I got a break on the price but had I known I would have either tossed them in the trash or given them away or sold them at a yard sale for next to nothing. A reasonable charge of 5 dollars per item wouldn't have been a problem. Dirty hippies trying to clean up the world while stuffing their pockets with money they supposedly don't believe in, who needs 'em?

Did you know that you can recycle electronics at Best Buy? Some things have a charge, such as $5 or $10, but when you pay that you get a gift card to Best Buy for the same amount.

Selinsgrove does it that way too.

Gosh I miss Selinsgrove!

I tell you- living among retirees is the best! I wish I could move back. But I own now in Sunbury.

This is an odd quagmire. I seen a group of guys that harvest the rare metals that are contained IN the electronics. They collect the stuff for free- chemically harvest the good stuff- then make profit so as to dispose of the item.

Years ago- you go to jail- steal a TV. Now- throw one away illegally- get a fine. lol
